Emergency Food Assistance Program

Offered weekly based on need and eligibility screening assessments. Clients are able to shop for free fresh, frozen and packaged food items at our pantry, choosing what they need and eat regularly, thus eliminating waste and promoting dignity.

9 front deskFood Pantry Hours:
Wednesdays      9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Thursdays         9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Hunger Relief/Rescue Program
Fridays               2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

In addition to our emergency food pantry, this weekly program provides free nutritious supplemental food items rescued from local retail stores. Available without eligibility requirements.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
With the help of the University of RI’s Feinstein Center for a Hunger Free America,
RI CAN offers food stamp outreach. Clients have weekly access to on-site coordinators from URI that provide program information and application assistance.

 Summer Program 2017 Splash  @ RI CAN, through The Johnnycake Center, will provide weekly food during normal Pantry hours for children who need breakfast and lunch. Please call 364-9412 for additional information.

Holiday Programs
Provides free Thanksgiving and Christmas food items for nutritious holiday meals as well as Santa’s Workshop, a client choice gift program.

Client access to free apparel items based on need. Clothing available for all ages, including coats, shoes and accessories.

Furniture Depot
Client access to free items based on need and available resources, including furniture and home furnishings as well as other household necessities such as blankets, sheets and towels.

    Announcement

    South County Community Action Head Start program is enrolling for our 2016-2017 program year at our centers located in: Charlestown, South Kingstown, North Kingstown and Westerly. This is a free preschool program. Your family may be eligible if you reside in North Kingstown, Exeter, South Kingstown, Westerly, Charlestown, Richmond, Hopkinton or Narragansett. One must meet the Head Start income guidelines. Preschoolers must be between the ages of 3 to 5. If you are receiving FIP(RI Works) or SSI, Homeless or if the preschooler is a Foster child you are considered categorically eligible.

    Hello i was trying to find some help for some necessities my family and i need this year. Been a rough year financially for us, like so many others. I know that there are many people in need but was seeing if any help for furniture and odds and ends was available, and also some thanksgiving and christmas help for my children would be wonderful!
